The 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 is joining the Continental GT V8 in Bentley’s lineup this year, but not on the floor at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 which is like its hard-top sibling has also been fitted with a powerful and relatively frugal V-8 option for the 2013 model year. Details for the Coupe model were already revealed to that effect, but now that the auto show has opened its doors, the new 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 was there, welcoming the auto industry.
In Europe, the 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 price will be started at €149,600 – or about $191,000 at the current exchange rates. While the 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 price for the North American market will be announced at a later date.
Apart from its lightweight convertible roof, the 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 specs is almost identical to the Continental GTC V8 hard-top; both V-8 models feature red winged ‘B’ emblems and a black gloss grille to indicate that a different Bentley powerplant nestles in their engine bays. The 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 also feature a unique center console separating the driver and front passenger, as well as their own wheel patterns (20-inch wheels are standard).
Bentley has also made some changes to the aesthetic portions of the 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8. The new 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 has received a black gloss matrix grille with chrome frame and center bar, a red enamel Bentley “B” badge, a black matrix three-segment lower front bumper divided by distinctive body-colored strakes, unique chromed “figure eight’ exhaust tailpipes, a dark lower valance, and red enamel “B” bootlid badge.
Lifted from the recently revealed 2013 Audi S8 but tuned for more low-end torque–peak twisting force comes on at just 1,700 rpm–the new V-8 should see the 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 almost match the regular W-12 model in performance but with 40 percent fewer emissions.
This engine will make the 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 0-60 mph time in 4.8 seconds and up to a top speed of 188 mph. The 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 engine is mated to a new close-ratio 8-speed automatic transmission and is capable of traveling over 500 miles (800 km) on a single tank of fuel.
The key to its frugality is cylinder deactivation technology, which allows the new 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 engine to run on just four cylinders during low load situations. Importantly, the change between four and eight cylinders will remain imperceptible to passengers; this is because special hydraulic engine mounts compensate for the different resonances of the 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 and its V-4 mode.
Other fuel saving features in the 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 include direct injection technology, low friction bearings, thermal management, brake energy regeneration, and special packaging of the turbochargers to ensure high efficiency. The 2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8 transmission has been designed to not only boost acceleration but also help reduce emissions, helping to curb 6 percent of that previous 40 percent figure.
